Newcastle United are definitely showing some interest towards their reported summer target Lucas Paqueta, with his agent pushing him towards Tyneside.
This is what insider Dean Jones has said about the Brazilian on the latest Ranks FC podcast when discussing the Toon’s transfer latest.
However, Jones has suggested it may be a deal which does not pan out for Newcastle, with the journalist still ‘unconvinced’ Paqueta will end up at St James’ Park.
Just last month, the 24-year-old was spotted on Tyneside having flown in to meet up with his friend and current Newcastle star, Bruno Guimaraes.
The Toon have already made their first signing of the summer in Matt Targett and Jones believes Paqueta could potentially be another to arrive at St James’ Park.
He said: “There’s definitely been some interest in Paqueta. I’m not convinced it’ll happen. I think he’s got an agent that has been doing a lot of deals into Newcastle early doors, so that’s why this has been driven towards them. There is some interest.”

There are certainly parts of Jones’ comments which will please a lot of Newcastle fans, but there were some which may also cause concern over whether the Brazilian will be joining the club this summer.

It does sound as if a move is there to be made if both parties want to make it happen, however, Jones clearly has his doubts.
Reports suggest Paqueta is now wanting to move on from Lyon, so we do wonder if their relationship with the Toon may come in handy after their business in January for Bruno Guimaraes.
