Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that despite the rumours earlier in the season, Dean Henderson is not going to join Newcastle United.

There were reports coming out of Manchester United that fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle were closing in on bringing Henderson to St James’ Park, but it has recently come to light that a deal for the Magpies does not look like it will happen.

Henderson has been seriously out of favour for United this season as he did not play a single minute in the league and made just three senior appearances in other competitions due to the form of David de Gea.

With the recent news that Newcastle are not interested in signing Henderson anymore, Jones highlighted to GiveMeSport that this information has come as a surprise due to the persistent interest from the club previously.

He said: “It’s come as a bit of a surprise, but there is one source inside the club now that is indicating to people that he is not going to be pursued any longer, which definitely isn’t the message we’ve been getting from other people around the ownership up to now. So, that’s interesting.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’s comments…

Martin Dubravka has been Eddie Howe’s No 1 goalkeeper after Karl Darlow occupied the role during the Slovakian’s injury lay-off, but with the financial takeover of the club, the English manager might look to invest in a new shot-stopper.

Henderson featured much more regularly in the 2020/21 season for United, making 26 appearances in all competitions, which was enough to earn him a call up to the EURO 2020 squad.

It may have come as a bit of a surprise that Newcastle will not be pursuing Henderson, as he is a proven goalkeeper in the top flight and has been recognised as one of the country’s best after being named in several England squads.
