Freelance journalist Sean Casey has claimed on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel that Newcastle United have an interest in Gareth Bale.
The Wales international is now on the lookout for a new club after he helped his country qualify for the World Cup this winter and seeing his deal at Real Madrid come to an end after a trophy-laden time spent out in Madrid.
Bale will seemingly have his pick of clubs this summer, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Cardiff City and Getafe all being tipped with a move for the winger. Now, Newcastle can seemingly throw their name into the hat when it comes to landing the Welshman.
Casey has revealed that Bale has even been around Tyneside recently as he contemplates a move to Newcastle.
He said: “I think it’s absolutely got legs in it. I tweeted a while back – I said there was an interesting guest in the crowd, and I was told his agent was at one of the games.
“It was thought that the club were in talks with him, they had talks with the agent, they talked about the structure of a deal.

“Back then, what I got was that if Wales don’t qualify, he’d go to a Cardiff; if Wales qualify for the World Cup, he will look at coming to somebody like a Newcastle and play a higher level of football to keep himself at that level.
“I’ve heard as well that he was around as well last week, he was up and around the club and stuff like that. Is it true or not? Let’s see what comes out in the wash, but I 100% think there’s legs in the Gareth Bale [links]. If it’s a pay-as-you-play [deal] and he’s a player that’s looking for fitness before a World Cup, I think it’s an absolute no-brainer.”

The winger, who has been described as ‘world-class’ by TalkSport pundit Andy Goldstein, is still only 32 years old, so has a lot to give to the game, and while he may not be a player that can play many 90-minute matches for a top Premier League club, he would surely be one of the best impact players in the league.
As Casey spoke about, if Bale was to arrive on a pay-as-you-play deal, it would likely work for everyone involved as the winger could keep his fitness up and get regular minutes at the top level as well as the Magpies getting an experienced player and serial winner.
