During a recent interview, Sky Sports journalist Pete Graves tipped Newcastle United to win the signature of Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the summer transfer window to partner Callum Wilson.

The Magpies struggled with goals this past season, despite finishing strong in 11th place. They ranked 12th for goals scored with 44, scoring fewer than Brentford, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa – while they only bagged one more than Everton, who were battling relegation.

This poor form in front of goal, which saw no one in the team hit double digits as Wilson finished top with eight, has led to rumours of the northern outfit looking to add to their attacking numbers in the summer.

Graves has added to the speculation in a recent interview when he stated that signing Everton striker Calvert-Lewin would be a great partner for Wilson for several reasons, as despite his injury concerns, the England striker is a quality player.

He said: “Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s been mentioned as well. Now, he’s a quality player. I think with these players that are in the England squad, like Wilson, like Trippier, like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, when you get them playing for your club, you see them for what a good player they are.

“He’s big, he’s broad, he wins headers, he holds the ball up well, but of course, there’s this doubt about his injuries. I think if you had someone like him and Wilson, you know, one of them’s going to pick up an injury here or there.

“But if you could dovetail them with one playing half an hour and one playing an hour, and have two players like that, I think that would be great, but then you have to sign another one as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle signing DCL…

Newcastle finished off the 2021/22 season incredibly well, winning five of their last seven games, with the two losses coming to Liverpool and league winners Manchester City. With that being said, they could definitely upgrade their squad this summer, and signing a player like Calvert-Lewin would be a big win for the Magpies.

Despite struggling with injuries this season and only scoring five goals in 17 Premier League appearances in the most recent campaign, he managed 21 goals and five assists in 2020/21. There is no doubt he is a fantastic striker on his day and would give Newcastle a different kind of threat up top alongside Wilson, as a big aerial threat that can get on the end of crosses and hold the ball up for overlapping runs.
