Newcastle United have goalkeeper Dean Henderson identified as their priority signing for the upcoming summer window.

This has been suggested by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has been discussing the Manchester United star’s future on the Que Golazo YouTube channel.

Reports suggest the Toon are potentially closing in on their first addition this summer, with an agreement in place between themselves and Stade Reims for striker Hugo Ekitike.

The United goalkeeper is expected to move on this summer in some capacity, with a potential loan move to the Tyneside club reportedly an option this summer.

And when asked who Newcastle are most likely to sign this summer, Romano replied very quickly by suggesting the 25-year-old shot-stopper, saying:

“Henderson. The goalkeeper. Yes, Dean Henderson, I think it’s a priority for Newcastle, and then I see them going for a left-back – it will be an opportunity.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

With a deal for Ekitike believed to be near completion, this will certainly be a big boost for the fans at St James’ Park, with Henderson previously linked back in January.

It is believed the Toon have a new goalkeeper to replace Martin Dubravka on their radar this summer and we think they should be doing everything they can to do this before the pre-season tour.

Given Henderson barely played any football over the 2021/22 campaign for the Red Devils, we think it would be hugely beneficial for the 25-year-old to have as much time as possible to settle into life under Eddie Howe ahead of the new campaign. After all, when he was getting regular football during his time at Sheffield United, he was described as ‘insane’ by former teammate Sander Berge.
