Journalist Aaron Stokes has spoken on the Everything is Black and White podcast about the immediate future of Elliot Anderson at Newcastle United.

It’s pretty clear that the Magpies do indeed have a talented youngster on their hands, as at just 19, Anderson is already turning out for Scotland Under-21s and played a huge role in Bristol Rovers’ promotion into League One, registering eight goals and five assists in 21 appearances.

After his performances out on loan with Bristol Rovers, some Newcastle fans may be wanting to see Anderson handed a chance in the first team, however, that’s what happened to Matty Longstaff and his growth and development has certainly stagnated since he burst onto the scene after failing on loan at Aberdeen before impressing in League Two.

Stokes believes that Eddie Howe will give Anderson some time to impress in pre-season and prove he’s good enough for the Premier League.

Will Anderson be loaned out again?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

He said: “How many times have we seen the likes of Adam Armstrong and players like that, who look like they had a huge future, they inevitably ended up staying at Newcastle and they just sort of warmed the bench under the likes of Pardew and other managers?

“So [it is] crucial he gets the right move and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a month or two with the first team over the summer before they find him a loan in August time.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

As Stokes mentioned, there have been a few young players who’ve burst onto the scenes at Newcastle and within their youth ranks only to then make very little impact at the club, such as Adam Armstrong, Adam Campbell, Elias Sorensen and Matty Longstaff, so it’s crucial that doesn’t happen with Anderson.

Following the arrival of Dan Ashworth, who is said to be tasked with overseeing player development, it has to be near the top of his to-do list that Anderson, who was likened to Diego Maradona by Joey Barton, gets the best loan possible next season.
