It appears that Newcastle United’s owners are lining up a huge bid for striker Victor Osimhen.

Newcastle appeared to be getting ready to strike up their second deal of the summer as a fee had been agreed for Hugo Ekitike and a five-year contract was on the table for the young striker. However, his latest hamstring injury could potentially delay things.

Following Ekitike’s injury, Fabrizio Romano claimed that his agent was due on Tyneside on Monday, although that has now been delayed, which could see them move for other targets, with a big-money alternative in the form of Osimhen seemingly on the radar.

Noted insider ExWHUemployee, known for his West Ham news updates, has claimed on The Transfer Show that the Magpies are lining up a huge offer for Osimhen.

Should Newcastle sign Osimhen?

He said: “They’re going to make a monster offer for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Again, very highly rated, £85m, powerful, pacey; Arsenal have looked at him in the past – whether that will come off, I don’t know.

“Whether the player would want to go from Napoli, who are one of the bigger Italian teams, to Newcastle, I don’t know. I guess money will probably talk in that case.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

The Nigerian striker, who has been called ‘terrifying’ by journalist Saddick Adams, does seemingly have a major price tag on his head over £80m, and after a stellar season out in Serie A, netting 14 goals and registering five assists and still having three years on his contract, that fee is no surprise.

Luke Edwards has claimed that despite Ekitike’s injury, the club will still be going for the striker, but at just 19, it remains to be seen whether Eddie Howe and PIF see that as enough going into next season or if they feel they’ve got to make a big splash on a recognised name like Osimhen or Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
