Journalist Lee Davey has been speaking on the Loaded Mag YouTube channel and dropped a positive claim on Newcastle United target Sven Botman.

The Magpies have been linked with Botman for several months now and appeared to have finally made a breakthrough recently when The Northern Echo reported that a fee had been agreed, only for a later claim to emerge that Lille were now demanding more money.

While talks appear to have slowed down a lot in recent days and weeks, Botman is still a target, and Newcastle will be confident of landing the defender if reports are true that Milan, who were also interested in Botman, are now looking to pull out of a potential deal.

Davey believes that the noises coming from the Serie A champions are positive ones for Newcastle.

Do you think Newcastle will sign Botman?

No!

He said: “There’s a feel coming out of Milan that they’re not going to up their offer for Botman, which really seems as though it’s a straight route for Newcastle to go in and secure their man.

“Now, I believe this is probably the case, I think Milan are going to struggle to be able to match Newcastle United.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

It would be a huge statement of intent for Newcastle if they were able to fend off competition from the likes of Milan and Tottenham Hotspur to land a 22-year old league-winning centre-back who also has Champions League experience.

However, it appears that there could still be something of a stand-off between the two clubs, with Newcastle happy to pay the previously agreed £30m, while Lille are now seeking more money, and if they don’t reduce their price tag, they could end up receiving nothing for Botman as Milan and Newcastle could both walk away – though Milan’s apparent withdrawal is surely great news for the Toon.
