Ben Jacobs has claimed on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel that Newcastle United transfer target Lucas Paqueta now requires surgery.

The Magpies have long been interested in a move for Paqueta who has already been pictured wearing a Newcastle shirt only a few weeks ago when he jetted over to Tyneside to celebrate with his friend and former teammate, Bruno Guimaraes.

However, it has previously been reported by The Chronicle that Lyon have slapped a huge £58 million price tag on his head, something that the Magpies will seemingly baulk at but now, something else has emerged which could throw any potential deal up in the air.

Jacobs has now claimed that Paqueta has picked up a freak injury while flying a kite that will see him now require surgery.

Should Newcastle sign Paqueta?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“Newcastle will have to ramp up their efforts pretty quickly, the other thing, by the way, is that he randomly injured himself flying a kite from what I gather and that will actually force him to have surgery.”

TIF Thoughts on Paqueta…

It’s no surprise that Newcastle are interested in bringing Paqueta to Tyneside given his brilliant relationship with star January recruit, Guimaraes, and the fact he was more creative than players such as Angel Di Maria, Houssem Aouar and Jonathan Bamba (FBRef).

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

However, as Jacobs alluded to, the Magpies may have to speed up any talks soon as Tottenham Hotspur are also said to hold an interest in the midfielder and with the London club able to offer Champions League football, discussions could just begin to get more difficult for Newcastle.

And it is apparent this possible arrival on Tyneside is one some pundits would be keen to see with Frank McAvennie highlighting his thoughts on the 24-year-old:

“But if they really want him, I see no problem in getting him. It would be another incredible signing for them, considering where they were,” he told Football Insider.
