Newcastle United are set to face a huge problem this summer as they are struggling to sell players they are desperate to get out of the door and claims Eddie Howe does not want a bloated squad, according to Sky Sport’s journalist Michael Bridge.

Newcastle has been linked with a couple of players this summer, including Hugo Ekitike and Sven Botman but have struggled to get the deals over the line so far, but it appears that is not their biggest problem this transfer window.

According to Bridge, the club is struggling to get rid of a load of unwanted players at the club so far this summer and until they do so it could hinder their business in the market as the club and manager Howe do not want a big squad going into the season.

He told the Transfer Show, “From what I’m hearing, someone I spoke to who knows the club quite well, the problem with Newcastle is they can’t sell their players.

“They’re desperate to get rid of a load of them and until they get rid of them, they don’t want to start the season with a squad of 35 or 40. They want to get that balance right. Eddie Howe doesn’t want a bloated squad.” (3:47)

TIF thoughts on Bridge’s comments…

Newcastle has a lot of dross in their squad and in order to get rid of them, it looks like they are going to have to take a big hit on their investments into these players. Now, considering they have an almost unlimited amount of resources with their new owners, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, it should not hit them as hard as it previously would have under Mike Ashley.

The club have been linked to a number of impressive players this summer and if they miss out on signing them due to not being able to ship the likes of Jeff Hendrick, Dwight Gayle, and Miguel Almiron to name a few, it will be a huge disappointment for both club and the fans.
