TalkSPORT football correspondent Alex Crook has revealed that Manchester United are hoping to finalise the signing of Frenkie De Jong by Thursday this week.

Crook was speaking on the TalkSPORT GameDay podcast amid the seemingly never-ending De Jong/United transfer saga.

However, as pointed out by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano a deal is ‘finally getting closer’ after a €65m (£56.1m) verbal bid was made by the Red Devils with a total packing amassing to €85m (£73.5m) being worked on.

Erik ten Hag has been keen on a reunion with the maestro he brought to prominence at Ajax and it seems as if he will finally get his man with Crook announcing that the Old Trafford executives have an end-date in mind:

“My understanding on that one is that Manchester United want to get the deal over the line by Thursday, June 30.”

TIF Thoughts on De Jong and United…

Such news will be music to the ears of United supporters as this could well be the key to unlocking the rest of their transfer window.

Will Man United agree to sign Frenkie de Jong this week?

Football director John Murtough will now have a clear understanding of the budget that he will have left to allocate to other areas which are in dire need of improvement.

The manager’s centre-back pairing in Amsterdam, Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez have both been targeted as well as Villarreal colossus Pau Torres (La Razon via Sportwitness).

Ruben Neves has long been a name linked with a move to Manchester and Ajax winger Antony is also being monitored and perhaps now more arrivals will follow.

It is seeming increasingly likely that the statement signing of the window for United will take the plunge and it is clear that the club see him as the centre-piece having appeared to wait and get him through the door first.
