Manchester United podcaster Mark Goldbridge believes Christian Eriksen’s future is unclear and that the Brentford midfielder could end up at Old Trafford this summer.

Goldbridge was speaking on the United Stand YouTube channel following reports from The Mirror claiming that the Red Devils had entered the race to sign the Denmark international.

Eriksen joined Brentford on a six-month contract back in January and inspired the Bees to a 13th-placed finish with one goal and three assists in the final eight games of the season.

According to 90min, Aston Villa are among a number of potential suitors interested in offering him a deal as well as Newcastle United, West Ham United and former club Tottenham Hotspur, but having trained with his ex-employers at Ajax following his heart scare, Goldbridge believes United could have a chance of landing the Dane.

He said: “I was exchanging messages with people last night [Saturday] about Eriksen, who were quite close to [his future] and the story remains the same as what we’ve always put out on this channel – is that Eriksen is ridiculously loyal to Brentford, who gave him a chance and obviously, he’s played at Brentford since January, he loves it there.

“But Manchester United is Manchester United, and also, Erik ten Hag is Erik ten Hag.

“Erik ten Hag actually had Eriksen training with him after what happened last summer, so they have a relationship there that Ajax let him come and train with them.

“So there is a relationship there. I think this is an interesting one. I think it could go either way.”

TIF Thoughts on Eriksen to United…

Dubbed a “superstar” by journalist Graeme Bailey, the 30-year-old could bring renewed light to Old Trafford after a dismal season.

He has directly contributed to 123 goals in the English top flight and his recent displays in a candy-stripe shirt have demonstrated that the quality still lies within the 112-time Denmark international.

With Paul Pogba departing, Eriksen would help fill that creative void, and on a free transfer, it would allow Ten Hag to allocate funds to other areas of the pitch that are in dire need of strengthening.
