YouTuber Mark Goldbridge is pretty certain that a deal between Manchester United and Christian Eriksen will materialise this summer.

The Danish maestro joined Brentford on a six-month contract back in January and inspired the Bees to a commendable 13th-place finish with one goal and three assists in the final eight games of the season – which has seemingly caught the eye of Old Trafford officials.

He trained with Erik ten Hag at Ajax ahead of a return to action earlier this year and may have built an understanding with the incoming boss, while it is clear that Ten Hag sees potential in the player given the news last week that the Red Devils have made the free agent an offer.

Football.london has stated that Tottenham Hotspur, who were in contact with representatives of the 30-year-old, are yet to follow up on their interest, while Brentford have tabled ‘serious’ personal terms.

But according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Eriksen has decided to depart the west London club, which could leave United in firm control – and that appears to be the impression that Goldbridge had while speaking on The United Stand YouTube channel.

Speaking on Monday, he said: “When you look at Christian Eriksen, he’s the heir to the Mata throne.

“He’s got that likeability, he’s got that quality and Ten Hag really, really wants him.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a done deal yet, but what I was told about an hour ago… if you were going to do a percentage, go high… look, if Spurs aren’t interested, I’m tempted to say it’s basically deal done.”

While it does appear to be growing increasingly likely that the 115-time Denmark international arrives at Old Trafford, one is left to wonder what it means for other creative United players such as Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes played in all but two of United’s Premier League games last season, posting 10 goals and six assists while taking up the No 10 role most prominently under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick and carrying the brunt of the orchestrating burden, but if Eriksen were to arrive, surely there would only be room for one in the side.

While the club will be in the Europa League and perhaps minutes can be shared, it does raise some potential concerns for Fernandes. Although, perhaps this is just an opportune pick-up by the club, as the chance to secure a player who has directly contributed to 123 goals in the English top flight for nothing doesn’t come around too often.
