Manchester United’s decision to let Ralf Rangnick leave was “stupid”.

That is the opinion of Mark Goldbridge, who was speaking on The United Stand YouTube channel discussing United’s reported transfer targets.

The presenter wasn’t holding back following the decision by “mutual agreement” to allow the interim manager to leave his consultancy role, which was previously agreed upon, and focus solely on his task as the Austria national team coach.

The German native led the side to their worst-ever Premier League points total, having taken over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December, but Goldbridge believes that Rangnick would have seen the problems that need rectifying first-hand.

He said: “I know people won’t like this; I think the removal of Rangnick was stupid, I really do. I think with Ralf Rangnick, there’s a guy who is a transfer guru, who spent six months analysing the problems at the club and then we said, ‘bye, bye, we’re not going to listen to you’.

“I think this is probably the most important thing I’m going to say about this probably for quite a while because it’s unscripted and it’s just straight off the top of my head – is it any wonder that our transfer window is not moving quickly and it’s moving very slowly when we basically started afresh in mid-May?”

TIF Thoughts on Rangnick and United…

The 63-year-old joined United from Lokomotiv Moscow where he had been residing as head of sports and development following significant success as director of football at RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg from 2012.

The ‘godfather’ of modern coaching in Germany was deemed as the ‘brains’ behind Leipzig’s rise from fourth-tier obscurity to the Bundesliga and was responsible for bringing the likes of Timo Werner and Naby Keita to the club, but perhaps incoming manager Erik ten Hag will wanted to have full control of United’s business plan.

His appointment at the end of April is perhaps the reason why the Red Devils have failed to bring in any new players as of yet, but at least the clearout has started, with Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba all departing.
