Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Ruben Neves is somebody who has always been on the list of Manchester United.

Frenkie de Jong is the main summer target for United in the summer transfer window, with Erik ten Hag keen on linking back up with the Dutch midfielder after their successful time at Ajax.

However, the Red Devils have also been tracking the progress of Neves, who has been a long-term target of the club, but Wolves are reportedly asking for £70m to buy their Portuguese midfielder, so it would be a significant offer if he was to join Cristiano Ronaldo and co at Old Trafford.

With nothing confirmed yet in terms of a deal for De Jong, Romano has highlighted Neves as an alternative who is highly rated by United whilst speaking with GiveMeSport.

He said: “I’m sure they have some alternatives. Ruben Neves is a player, that last summer, was already on the list. He’s always been on the list of Manchester United, and is really appreciated.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

It has recently been announced that Paul Pogba will leave Manchester United, so Ten Hag will surely be keen to find a replacement in the heart of midfield for the Frenchman, and if De Jong remains at Barcelona, Neves could be a suitable alternative, especially having helped Wolves climb from the Championship to the Europa League quarter-finals as they have become an established Premier League side since his arrival.

Neves, who has been called ‘sensational’, has played four seasons in the Premier League for Wolves and racked up 142 appearances along the way, and with Bruno Lage’s side not having any European football to contend with next season, Neves might be keen to leave the club to join a club playing in Europe such as United.
