Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that there is a good chance Pau Torres will sign for Manchester United in the summer.

There have been recent reports that Torres is keen on joining Manchester United in the summer over fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, who have also reportedly shown interest in the Spanish defender.

Torres came through the youth academy with Villarreal, and was a mainstay in the side this season, featuring 47 times in all competitions whilst chipping in with six goals and one assist for his side, including 12 appearances in their impressive Champions League campaign.

Whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Jones has claimed the word from those around Villarreal is that there is a good chance that Torres will sign for Manchester United.

He said: “I think, from what I understand, a lot of people close to Pau Torres do see this deal as one that is still gathering pace. People close to the player say it is close and Villarreal think there’s a good chance it will happen.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Torres has been a standout performer for Villarreal this season in La Liga. This past season, he had the third-highest average player rating (7.09), as well as making the second-most clearances (3.1) and the third-most accurate passes per game (51.4), as per SofaScore.

United struggled this season, finishing sixth in the Premier League and conceding 57 goals – which was the second-worst total in the top 10. Therefore, Erik ten Hag will most likely be looking to bring in some new defenders, and Torres could be a great option due to his impressive stats this season.

Torres would head to Old Trafford with experience in the Champions League, which is something that Ten Hag may also be keen to bring to the club with the players he signs, as he aims to get the club back into the competition at the first time of asking.
