Manchester United are now ‘very close’ to making Darwin Nunez their first signing under their new manager, Erik ten Hag.

This is according to journalist Dean Jones, who has been discussing the latest transfer news at Old Trafford on the Ranks FC podcast.

It is reported the Uruguayan striker is high up on the list of transfer targets at United this summer, with the Red Devils looking to add a new striker to their squad.

Liverpool are also believed to have an interest in the 22-year-old this summer, however, Jones believes a deal is a lot closer than is being reported elsewhere.

He said: “I keep being told – I keep playing this down elsewhere when I’m asked about it.

“I was actually told that this is very close to happening and the only threat United see is coming from Atletico Madrid. So, you know, I don’t want to get too excited. It’s only one guy that’s telling me this, but he is pretty good at United.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

This would feel like a huge boost to the Ten Hag era, with the 22-year-old striker believed to be on the radar of a number of other European powerhouses this summer.

Is Nunez a good fit for Man Utd?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Not only would this be a big sign of confidence in beating other big clubs to the striker’s signature, but he could provide United with a huge boost on the pitch.

This season, Nunez’s goal record has been nothing short of sensational. His Champions League return has certainly shown he has the potential to hit the heights in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

With just one main outlet in front of goal over the 2021/22 campaign, could Nunez be the man to lead the Ten Hag era on the pitch at Old Trafford?
