Transfer insider Dean Jones has claimed that Manchester United are about €10m (£8.6m) away from signing Frenkie de Jong.

The Barcelona man looks to be a main target for the Red Devils this summer, with Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth recently claiming that the transfer attempts should develop in the near future.

According to the Guardian, United have already made a bid of €60m (£51.3m) that was rejected, and now Jones had claimed that this offer has been increased to €65m (£56m) plus add-ons of about €20m (£17.2m).

However, he says Barca won’t accept that price, but if the Premier League outfit up their bid a little higher that could well agree upon a fee at last.

TIF thoughts on Frenkie de Jong and Man United…
United are widely believed to have plenty of financial power in the current window, and so it seems as though they may well be able to find that extra £8.6m to get this deal across the line.
If that is the case, the club’s fans will likely be pretty excited. Indeed, last season it was well accepted that the Red Devils had issues in the middle of the park that were holding them back.
If De Jong was to come in though, he could solve some of those concerns. Indeed, having won major trophies in Spain and Holland, the 25-year-old would be expected to improve the squad instantly – especially if he does end up moving for the reported transfer fee that Jones moots in the quotes above.
