Journalist Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Manchester United have a boost in terms of signing Antony due to the club’s relationship with Ajax.

Premier League outfit Manchester United are reportedly keen on bringing Antony to Old Trafford in the summer from Ajax, with Erik ten Hag who previously worked with the Brazilian winger, so he knows his capabilities and could be his first signing as United manager.

Antony was in impressive form for Ajax last season under Ten Hag, he netted 12 times and registered 10 assists in 33 games in all competitions. Six of these goal contributions came in 11 Champions League games.

With Manchester United previously signing Donny van de Beek from Ajax, Sheth has claimed to GiveMeSport that the clubs have a good relationship which could make the Antony deal run smoothly.

“The interest that they do have is in another Ajax player, and you can see the theme here, in Antony, the Brazilian winger. So, I think there’s an interest there.

“There’s been initial contact with Ajax, and look, the relationship between Manchester United and Ajax is a very, very good one. They dealt with Donny van de Beek when he arrived a couple of summers ago,” Sheth said.

TIF Thoughts on Sheth’s comments…

Manchester United struggled in front of goal last season as they scored the least amount of goals (57) out of all the sides in the top eight. So, Ten Hag might be keen to bolster the attack, and the fact that he has shown interest in the ‘fantastic’ Antony, proves that he highly rates the 22-year-old and feels that he can add to the United front-line.

Although United are keen on the Brazilian, Ajax might be reluctant to let him go unless the fee is a significant one, due to his age and the fact that he still has three years remaining on his contract, so United might have to spend big if they want to get him in the door this summer.
