Sky Sports contributor Chris Hamill has backed Liverpool to make a move for Moussa Dembele this summer while speaking on the Football Daily YouTube channel.
While it may appear that Liverpool don’t necessarily need a striker, or even another attacker given their current options, if Sadio Mane gets his move away from the Reds, they would be losing a very consistent scorer in the Premier League.
This, coupled with the fact that big-time impact substitute Divock Origi is leaving as a free agent and looks set to join Serie A champions Milan, the need for a big and tall striker could end up being near the top of Jurgen Klopp’s agenda this summer.
Hamill believes that a move for Dembele, who netted 21 league goals in 2021/22, could be on the cards for Liverpool.
Would Dembele be a good signing for Liverpool?

He said: “I was actually thinking people are perhaps sleeping somewhat on Moussa Dembele’s exploits at Lyon. Here is a 25-year-old that in two out of his last three full campaigns in the south of France, has operated at 0.8 goals and assists per 90.
“He’s a very good age, I think he’s quite gettable, and he is mobile, he’s physical, he’s super-efficient in the box. I think he is an interesting proposition for any top Premier League side that are looking for value at a No 9, perhaps.”
TIF Thoughts on Liverpool going for Dembele…
If Liverpool were able to bring in someone of Dembele’s experience across different leagues and convince him to be part of a front three that quite often rotates, it would be a sensational move to have someone you could call upon that’s bagged double figures in each of his last three full seasons in Ligue 1.
The French striker is also set to be out of contract next summer, so trying to tempt Lyon – a club that will have no European football next season – into selling Dembele, who reporter Rich Fay called ‘deadly’, could well be easier than initially thought.
