Ally McCoist was shocked at the questions asked of Andrew Robertson after the Liverpool defender was criticised for celebrating during the Reds’ victory parade.

Despite losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid last Saturday, the Premier League side held a victory parade less than 24 hours later to celebrate their FA Cup and League Cup wins. Like the rest of his teammates, £58.5m-valued Robertson was present, and understandably enjoyed himself.

However, he has since been criticised given Scotland’s World Cup play-off match takes place on Wednesday evening. However, fellow Scot McCoist believes the former Hull City man should be cut some slack. He said on TalkSport: “Seriously? Is he seriously getting a bit of stick for that? Why? He cannot be. There’s no way.”

Ray Parlour, who also appeared on the show, was just as shocked, and believed he did not deserve to be questioned, either.

Robertson has had a long season, having made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Reds. Of course, Scotland’s clash against Ukraine is a big one, but he deserves a bit of downtime to enjoy himself and relax. He has been dependable for club and country for years, so there is no indication he will not be concentrating on the task at hand.

Players are not robots – they are human beings, who must recover and let their hair down once in a while. After the bitter disappointment at the Stade de France, Robertson perhaps even needed a celebration to rejuvenate himself ahead of the next clash. We are sure he will not let anyone down at Hampden Park.
