Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that “everything is open” when it comes to Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool.
The long-term future of the 29-year-old still remains undecided, with his current contract expiring at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, but he has publicly stated that he will at least see out the remainder of his deal at Anfield.
Daily Mirror journalist David Maddock is of the impression that Kopites can breathe a sigh of relief as “it surely strengthens” Salah’s hand in contract talks and that a “deal can be struck.”
However, journalist Rob Blanchette has been recently speaking on The Done Deal Show and is convinced that Salah will leave upon the expiry of his current deal regardless.
And speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has now claimed that both avenues could be explored, but if Liverpool are to hang on to their star man, they will have to table a higher offer.

He said: “At the moment, the situation is still on standby between Salah, his agent and Liverpool to extend the contract, but Liverpool will have time to improve their bid.
“They will have time because Mo Salah wants to continue at the club for one more season, and then let’s see if Liverpool will improve their proposal and they will keep Mo Salah at the club with a new contract, or if Mo will leave as a free agent in summer 2023.
“Everything is open, but at the moment the expectation is for Mo Salah to stay at Liverpool for one more season and then we will see what happens with the contract.”

Salah is rated at £90m by Transfermarkt and with differing views on what his future holds, the club will have to make a decision on whether or not they look to sell their superstar this summer, risk losing him on a free next year or manage to convince the two-time African Footballer of the Year to put pen to paper on a new deal.
One thing that is for sure is that his absence will be felt, so perhaps finding his replacement during this off-season period would do no harm just so they have that extra time to settle in.
