Phil Hay has made the bold claim that Leeds United will indeed sign a new striker this summer.

Last season was a tough one for Leeds, who had to get through the majority of the campaign without their star striker in Patrick Bamford, who picked up several different injuries which limited him to just nine league appearances and two goals.

This meant that Daniel James had to play through the middle for much of the season and to very little joy, netting just four league goals, so it’s no surprise that Hay has claimed Leeds will bring in a new striker this transfer window.

Hay made the big claim about Leeds’ desire for a new striker while speaking on The Phil Hay Show.

He said: “The one [target] that isn’t kind of in dispute about whether they’re going to [add to] is a striker, and I don’t mean I can tell you who they are going to do, but they are going to bring in a centre-forward regardless of what goes on with other players. That, they can work on; that they can look at.”

TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ hunt for a new striker…

It’s pretty obvious Leeds are in desperate need for reinforcements in the final third, as the only man behind Bamford in the pecking order is 20-year-old Joe Gelhardt, and it’s not right that a lot of pressure gets thrust upon his shoulders if and when Bamford picks up an injury.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

The most prominent name within the striker talk appears to be Paris Saint-Germain youngster Arnaud Kalimuendo, who netted 13 goals last season while out on loan with RC Lens, and while it could be an exciting signing, it wouldn’t be certain that another 20-year-old that’s only ever played in France could hit the ground running or even push Bamford for a starting place.
