TeamTalk editor James Marshment took to the Just Joe Football Show to reveal that he believes Raphinha’s move to Barcelona is still a possibility.
The Brazilian winger almost single-handedly dragged Leeds to safety last season, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further three goals in the Premier League. And it was his impressive form that attracted the interest of Barcelona.
The Catalan giants are still interested, even after Leeds’ survival, but financial issues could hold them back once more. As per Fabrizio Romano, Leeds won’t accept less than €55m (£47m) for their star man, with Arsenal now also reportedly interested.
Even with their financial issues, Marshment still believes that Raphinha has a chance of moving to Barcelona, saying: “Survival puts the ball in our court, and I think Leeds now, quite rightly, because he’s an unbelievable player, have said, £50m-£60m minimum, which is what he’s worth in the market.
“Leeds would look totally ridiculous if they ended up selling him for £25m-£30m – what Barcelona thought they could get him for, but I’m with you [presenter Joe Wainman] I think they will find a way to get him.”
Barcelona are still used to getting what they want in the majority of situations. But, the fact is, clubs are in a far better place when it comes to negotiations with the Catalans now. Their financial instability is no secret, and clubs can play off that.
A side fresh off a relegation battle, such as Leeds, no longer have to let Barcelona walk in and do as they please; something highlighted by the Raphinha ordeal.

Raphinha is an excellent player, worthy of the biggest stages, and worthy of a move to a club as big as Barcelona. But, Leeds are still entitled to a justifiable fee for their Brazilian star.
Wherever Raphinha goes, it looks set to be a long summer for himself and Leeds. As things stand, the battle for the winger’s signature is reportedly between Arsenal and Barcelona. If Raphinha doesn’t get a move to either of those clubs, then he could yet remain at Elland Road this summer.
