It has been an exciting couple of days for the Yorkshire club despite the continued transfer saga surrounding star man Raphinha.
It certainly appears that Victor Orta and his fellow officials have big ambitions when it comes to reinvesting the reported £65m fee they are demanding for the Brazilian, with links to flashy PSV winger Cody Gakpo and diminutive playmaker Otavio from FC Porto.
However, an update from Fabrizio Romano revealing that Leeds are ‘monitoring’ Club Brugge starlet Charles De Ketelaere appears to top the lot for McGilligan.
Could Leeds sign De Ketelaere?
He said: “This is mental. This is absolutely mental that Leeds are linked with him.
“He’s got a much higher ceiling than Noa Lang – he is a better player than Noa Lang.
“Off the ball – high presser, great tackler from the front, one of the best tacklers from the front in an offensive position you’ll see. His vision is something quite spectacular in Europe at the minute.
“He’s really got everything. He’s got absolutely everything; his finesse is just fantastic.
“It’s great to see Victor Orta is actually going for these sorts of players.”
TIF Thoughts on De Ketelaere and Leeds…
Having earned the nickname ‘King Charles’, the attacker’s stock continues to rise after a season that produced 18 goals and 10 assists, earning praise from Club Brugge legend Gert Verheyen, who told Het Nieuwsblad (via Goal) that he is the ‘complete’ player.
The highest-valued product in the Jupiler Pro League at £27m according to Transfermarkt, De Ketelaere can also operate as an attacking midfielder or second striker, meaning he could solve a problem that Leeds had at both No 9 and No 10 last season in the absence of Patrick Bamford.
The 21-year-old impressed Pep Guardiola after Manchester City met Brugge in the Champions League last term, and it appears that he has admirers at Leeds.
Although, as Romano’s latest claim suggests, Jesse Marsch’s side would have to beat some serious competition – namely Serie A champions Milan – to the 6ft 4in forward’s signature, but eyeing a player of De Ketelaere’s ability and potential is certainly encouraging for supporters as it shows great intent.
