Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United have been offered New York City FC’s Valentin Castellanos ahead of the summer transfer window.

There have been reports that Leeds United are interested in bringing Castellanos to Elland Road this summer, but the Whites may face competition for his signature, as fellow Premier League outfit West Ham United are also keen on signing him.

Castellanos has been in fine form for New York City FC in all competitions this season, as he has netted an impressive 11 times in 18 appearances whilst also chipping in with a further five assists for his side.

The Argentinian forward may not be the most sought-after man in world football, but whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that Castellanos has had a really good year in MLS and is someone who has been offered to American coach Jesse Marsch.

Jones said: “I think Castellanos is the one to look out for, they’ve definitely been offered him. They’re weighing it up at the moment.

“Again, it might not be a player that gets Leeds fans particularly excited, but he’s actually had a really good year in MLS.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Leeds United struggled immensely this past season and just managed to confirm their Premier League status for next term on the final day of the campaign. Just four sides scored fewer than their tally of 42 in 38 games.

Marsch has not yet had a transfer window as Leeds manager to bring in players to suit his system, and with the poor campaign last term for the Whites, he may be expected to make a haul of chances, and a striker will almost definitely be on his wishlist due to the lack of goals from his side last season.

Castellanos could be a good option for Marsch, as he has proved that he can score goals and is just 23 years old, so he has plenty of time to develop and improve under the American coach.
