Journalist Conor McGilligan has suggested that Leeds United need to upgrade on players like Tyler Roberts this summer.
Having only just survived relegation by a small margin this season, the Whites will not want to cut things so close next time around.
With that in mind, the club have already set about improving their squad with the signing of Brenden Aaronson from RB Salzburg.
However, McGilligan has urged Leeds to not be ‘Charity FC’, and to act ruthlessly in the coming months with more transfers so the club can have better players than Roberts in the team.
While talking about the player on the One Leeds Fan Channel, he said: “I can’t believe people are still giving him chances, it’s staggering. We are Charity FC at points, aren’t we?
“Sure he’s a nice kid. I’m sure he’s a really, really nice kid. But please go look at his stats. You know, please go and just look at his general output in the past four years.
“Listen, I know we only got him for £3m, but for goodness sake, come on. Premier League Leeds United, can we please raise the bar?

McGilligan alludes to Roberts’ statistics for Leeds, and when you look at his goal output it’s easy to see why he is so frustrated with the Welshman. Indeed, the 23-year-old has played 108 games for the Whites but has scored just nine times – in fact, he has more yellow cards (14) in that time.
And with one goal and one assist for the senior team last season, it’s easy to see why some fans may well feel as though it is time for the player to move on.
Roberts still has two years left on his contract and so a sale could raise some funds to invest in a new signing. And with somebody like the exciting New York City FC attacker Valentin Castellanos supposedly on the club’s radar, it’s not hard to understand why McGilligan has urged Leeds to ‘raise the bar’ and replace the Welsh forward.
