Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Raphinha will definitely not be a Leeds United player at the start of next season.

Arsenal have reportedly now emerged as the frontrunners to sign winger Raphinha in the upcoming months. However, there were reports stating that the Brazilian winger had initially told the club that he desired to join Barcelona.

Raphinha was the main man for Leeds last season, as he was the club’s top scorer with 11 Premier League goals in 35 games, whilst also chipping in with three assists.

With Barcelona and Arsenal heavily linked with Raphinha, Jones told GiveMeSport that it would be a ‘minor miracle’ if he was to remain at Elland Road.

He said: “Raphinha is not going to be a Leeds player next season. I think it would be a minor miracle if he were to line up for Leeds beyond this transfer window. Maybe they can hold onto him until the start of the season, but even then, it’s unlikely that he’d want to be playing in case he got injured.”

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments…

It would be a huge loss for Jesse Marsch if Raphinha was to leave Elland Road over the summer considering the attacking threat that he has offered to the club since he signed in 2020. In 65 Premier League games, he has netted 17 times and registered 12 assists.

Although it would be a big miss, Leeds will be expected to receive a significant fee for him, so Marsch will be able to use the funds to invest in players that suit the system he is looking to play next season.

If Raphinha wants to leave and further his career in an attempt to win trophies, there is no point in Leeds keeping him at the club, as he might not be willing to give them 100% if they stop his progression by denying him an Elland Road exit.
