Leeds United are among the clubs reportedly interested in Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino this summer.
Appearing on the Just Joe Football Show, TeamTalk editor James Marshment gave his verdict on the Leeds-linked forward, Minamino.
According to David Lynch of This is Anfield, the forward’s agent has flown into Europe to begin talks with a number of clubs. The clubs reported to be interested in the Liverpool man are Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton, and Leeds.
Marshment had his say on the links: “I think the fact that Jesse Marsh has that connection, it’s obviously worked well together. To me, that’s a deal that could well have legs and I think we talked about the third signing, if it’s going to be anybody I’d potentially think it might be him.”
Having played under Jesse Marsch before, and succeeded, scoring nine goals in 22 appearances under the manager at RB Salzburg, as per Transfermarkt, Minamino may feel as though a move to the Yorkshire club is the best option.
With a reported £17 million asking price, the Japanese international would need to represent a risk-free option for those at Elland Road to justify any deal taking place. There is already plenty of clubs lining up to take the forward, too, making any deal potentially difficult.
TIF Thoughts on Minamino
Based on last season, if given the opportunity, Minamino should thrive at wherever he ends up. At Liverpool, he scored 10 goals in just 1008 minutes played – the equivalent of just over 11 full games.
It is that clinical nature in front of goal that Leeds lacked last season, too, without the often-injured Patrick Bamford. Bringing Minamino in would potentially solve any other potential problems in the frontline, and could prove to be the difference between survival and relegation next season.
For £17 million, the deal looks like it could be a risk worth taking this summer.
