Presenter and Leeds United fan Joe Wainman has urged the club to sign former defender Charlie Taylor from Burnley ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Leeds had problems last season at left-back, as they signed Junior Firpo from Barcelona in the summer but he failed to have the desired impact after he made just 24 appearances in the Premier League, which meant Stuart Dallas had to fill in when his form suffered.

Taylor used to play for Leeds, making 104 appearances for the Whites before making the switch to Turf Moor, but with Burnley getting relegated to the Championship, he might be keen to remain in the Premier League and force a move back.

Wainman spoke on the JustJoe Football Show YouTube channel and urged Leeds to re-sign Taylor.

He said: “I think it’s a no-brainer. He’s shown he can do it in the Premier League. Whenever he has come up against Leeds, he has always been a standout, so for those that say ‘he played for Burnley’ etc, look at the games he had against Leeds – he was always great. He knows how to deliver a ball, I think it would be a perfect acquisition.”

TIF Thoughts on Wainman’s comments…

Interestingly, Taylor actually admitted back in 2020 that his biggest regret was leaving Leeds United, so perhaps he’d be open to a return.

Although Jesse Marsch has already made three new signings at Elland Road this summer, they are yet to acquire a left-back, which is arguably the position they need the most, as Junior Firpo is their only natural senior option and he was ranked 23rd in terms of average player rating last season with 6.6 (as per SofaScore).

We think Taylor could be a good option for Leeds, as he is an experienced Premier League defender with him racking up 133 appearances in the top flight, so he might not be keen to drop down to the Championship and therefore may be a realistic option for the Whites if they decide to heed Wainman’s advice.

been saying this for weeks, Taylor would be as good a signing as any of the one’s we’ve made so far
