Journalist and podcaster Conor McGilligan recently claimed that he wants Leeds United to bolster their attacking options with the signing of 20-year-old Armando Broja, and believes the player’s potential is ‘massive’.

The Whites have stormed into the summer transfer window with the signings of Marc Roca from Bayern Munich and the Red Bull Salzburg duo of Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen – and it looks like their business is not over yet.

The club have been linked with a new striking option in Chelsea youngster Broja, who impressed last season on loan at Southampton and could now be set for a permanent move away from the west London club.

McGilligan expressed his excitement over the possibility of signing the striker on the One Leeds Fan Channel on YouTube, stating the £19.8m-rated man is his top target for Leeds and that he would fit perfectly into the system under manager Jesse Marsch.

He said: “My striker would be Armando Broja, that would be mine. Obviously played for Southampton this year, I think he’s a perfect profile.

“Taty Castellanos was one at New York City FC, I love what he brings, but for me, I really think in this system, if we’re able to keep hold of Raphinha, if we’re able to put Armando Broja around some of our players, I think system-wise, he’d fit it really, really nicely – especially if we brought in players like [Mohamed] Kamara, players like Aaronson in and around him; I think that’d be really beneficial to him.

“It’s also helped that he’s been at Southampton in a very similar system as well. But I think this kid’s going to go from level to level to level, I really do. I think his potential is massive.”

TIF Thoughts on Broja to Leeds…

The Yorkshire team need to address their attacking options this summer as they struggled last season with Patrick Bamford out with injuries for the majority of the campaign – the striker only made nine Premier League appearances. Meanwhile, Rodrigo bitterly disappointed with just six goals across all competitions.

Broja, who was called ‘devastating’ by Albania coach Sergio Porrini, could fix these problems, as he played 38 games across all competitions, racking up nine goals and one assist in that time – a tally which would have put him as the leader among Leeds’ strikers last season for goals. He also averaged 1.5 shots, 1.1 dribbles and 2.4 successful aerial duels per game, while ranking in the 86th percentile for aerials won and the 82nd for interceptions per game among players in his position across Europe’s top five leagues.

It looks like the club will face competition for the youngster, as West Ham United are rumoured to be sending a bid of £30m to acquire the player’s services. Leeds should be able to equal this price tag with the potential departures of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha on the horizon, though we feel they should look to sign Broja regardless of the departure rumours, but if they lose a player Raphinha, they will desperately need to replace his goals.
