Journalist Conor McGilligan has been left excited about the arrival of new Leeds United signing Brenden Aaronson after his latest display.

During the current international break, the United States men’s national team had to settle for a 0-0 draw in a friendly match against Uruguay.

While the game lacked goals, one player who helped bring some excitement to the occasion seemed to be the Whites’ new midfielder – who has joined from Red Bull Salzburg on a five-year contract.

Indeed, in the player ratings from MLS Soccer, Aaronson was praised for adding some ‘spark’ to proceedings.

Speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan read out the review with much excitement.

He said: “A little bit of a quote I found from MLS Soccer yesterday, ‘The Leeds-bound man once again played in central midfield (No. 8) role,’ – which we’re probably going to see him [in] for Leeds United – ‘and once again brought a spark and an edge to the match that had been previously lacking. Aaronson had the right ideas in possession and showed a grit that will serve him well in the Premier League.’

Should Brenden Aaronson ever play on the wing for Leeds?

“So this is great to read stuff like that, isn’t it? Because I think we’re all a little bit maybe apprehensive of what Aaronson’s going to bring.

“We’ve paid a high price, haven’t we, we’ve paid a very high price for Aaronson. But at the end of the day, £24m, is it really a high price for what we’re getting? 21 years of age, a lot of potential – I don’t know.

“We’ll wait and see. But yeah, it’s great to see he got one of the highest ratings last night, even after coming on at half-time.”

TIF Thoughts on Brenden Aaronson and Leeds…

As McGilligan mentions, Leeds did end up paying a fee in the region of £24m to sign Aaronson, so there will naturally be some fear that he can’t quite live up to the hype.

Which comedian supports the Whites?

However, it is hugely positive that he is playing well for his nation during the summer before linking up with the Whites. On top of that, he has been tipped to shine in the Premier League due to the ‘grit’ he showed against Uruguay.

There is no telling just how Aaronson will get on in England, but the signs certainly look good up to this point. If he can maintain the form he has shown while representing the USMNT, he could well become a star for Leeds next season.
