Joe Wainman has claimed that Leeds United should stay well clear of Adama Traore who he has been deemed not to be an adequate replacement for Raphinha.

Premier League side Leeds United reportedly have a strong interest in Adama Traore this summer and they have made an approach to sign him. When Victor Orta was at Middlesbrough, he managed to lure the Spanish winger to the club and the admiration for him is evidently still there.

Traore spent the second half of last season on loan with Barcelona in La Liga, but his time with the Spanish club did not go to plan after he made just four starts in the league, whilst failing to score and contributing with two assists.

After Traore has been linked with a move to Elland Road, Wainman claimed on the Just Joe Football Show YouTube channel that Leeds should stay well clear of the Spanish winger when recruiting a replacement for Raphinha.

“My only other worry is that the other one could be Adama Traore. And all I say, Victor Orta – I know you won’t watch this – but if you do just stay away from Adama, please.

“I’d rather you spend money on [Cody] Gakpo and then maybe an upcoming target if you’re going to bring in two – as opposed to Gakpo and Traore. Just stay away from Traore.”

“It would be so difficult for Leeds United fans to sell Raphinha and then bring in Adama, I’m hoping that he isn’t that second target,” Wainman said.

TIF Thoughts on Wainman’s comments…

Raphinha is believed to be set to leave Leeds, with Arsenal preparing a second increased bid for the Brazilian winger, and this will mean that Marsch will likely be looking to introduce a new winger at Elland Road this summer.

Even though Leeds have been linked with a move for Traore, Wainman has urged the club not to sign him, after he has failed to produce the goods so far in the Premier League, he has made 160 appearances, whilst scoring just eight goals and 16 assists in those games.

With Raphinha’s numbers last season, being Leeds’s top scorer with 11 goals in the league, if Marsch was to find a suitable replacement, he would most likely be looking for someone with better stats than Traore, who can contribute to a similar amount of goals as the Brazilian winger has.
