Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue recently claimed that the early signing of Brendan Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen has shown that ‘lessons have been learned’ by the Leeds United hierarchy after their close call with relegation.
The Whites scraped through the end of last season as they finished 17th with 38 points, only three from the final relegation spot which they escaped on the last day of the season. As a result of his horrendous second season back in the top flight, the club have already started to make moves in the transfer market and build around the vision of new manager Jesse Marsch.
So far they have already recruited two products from Austrian out Red Bull Salzburg, former club of Marsch, in attacking midfielder Brendan Aaronson for £24.7 million and right-back Rasmus Kristensen for a fee reported around £10m.
Donnohue believes this early work has proved that the club hierarchy and sporting director Victor Orta have learned their lessons of being hesitant and not doing enough in previous transfer windows.
He wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post, “The speed at which United have signed off on these deals indicates director of football Victor Orta is wasting little time in acquiring the club’s primary targets… Leeds’ business last summer was intentionally sparse, adding Norway U21 international Kristoffer Klaesson, ex-Barcelona full-back Junior Firpo and securing Jack Harrison on a permanent deal… Nevertheless, the speed at which business has been conducted this time around signals an acknowledgement from the very top that lessons have been learned”.

TIF Thoughts on Donnohue’s comments…
As stated by Donnohue the Leeds side failed to impress with their transfer business last season, only bringing in Jack Harrison, Daniel James, Junior Firpo, and Kristoffer Klaesson, and only Harrison impacted the squad greatly with his 10 goals last season.
They then failed to sign anyone in the January transfer window when it appears they were going to struggle in the table, so for them to move this fast and sign targets they like should fill fans with more confidence ahead of next season.
There is still plenty of time left for Leeds to bolster their squad further and it has been reported they are looking at Sporting Lisbon’s Gonzalo Plata and Bayern Munich’s Marc Roca. If they can continue to rebuild and sign good talent there is no reason why they can’t push themselves up the Premier League table.
