It has been claimed that Frank Lampard is interested in signing Conor Gallagher for Everton.

The midfielder enjoyed a very successful season out on loan at Crystal Palace, with the 22-year-old earning his first England cap and being nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, which was largely down to him registering 13 goal involvements in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Despite this, talk is still very much rife about Gallagher’s future, as he will now have to compete with the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho in the Chelsea midfield, although it’s been reported that Gallagher won’t just be a bit-part player under Thomas Tuchel.

Noted insider ExWHUemployee, who’s known for his West Ham transfer news, has claimed on The Transfer Show that former Chelsea manager Lampard is indeed interested in a move for Gallagher this summer.

Would you like to see Gallagher join Everton?

He said: “You’ve got Conor Gallagher, who I really like; he had a great spell at Crystal Palace on loan this year, scored against West Ham, played very well against us, pretty much dominated the game against us.

“He looks like someone that Lampard’s interested in.”

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

Given that Gallagher – who was called a ‘leader’ by Ashley Cole – is a Chelsea boy who came through the ranks with the Blues, it would be quite the surprise to see him leave the club this summer for anyone, never mind a club like Everton who were fighting relegation last season, after not even giving it a go at Stamford Bridge.

However, if a loan move can perhaps be negotiated, it would be a major coup for the Toffees as he would bring legs and energy to a midfield that is certainly starting to age. Abdoulaye Doucoure was the youngest regular starter last season at 28, and Gallagher at 22 made more pressures than any other Everton central midfielder in the 2021/22 season, which would signal a significant improvement for Lampard’s side.
