Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Yerry Mina could be the first player to leave Everton if they sign James Tarkowski.

There have been reports stating that Tarkowski is on the brink of signing for Everton with his contract set to expire with Burnley, who were recently relegated to the Championship after spending six consecutive seasons in the top flight.

Mina has managed to feature just four times in the league under Frank Lampard since he was introduced as Everton manager in January, and this is largely down to him suffering from injuries, while he has just 12 months remaining on his current contract with the club.

With Tarkowski reportedly close to becoming an Everton player, Crook spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that Mina could be the man to make way for the English defender.

He said: “I think Yerry Mina is likely to be the first guy to fall. I’d imagine it’ll be Tarkowski and Holgate as their first choice next season because Holgate ended the season well.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Mina was not able to feature regularly last season for Everton in what was been a difficult campaign for the Toffees. He made just 13 appearances in the league, and when he returned to fitness, he found it hard to find form, as he had the 12th-highest average player rating in the squad (6.84 – as per SofaScore).

With the disappointing season that Everton had, only escaping relegation by four points, Lampard will want to improve his squad, and with it looking like the Tarkowski deal is close to happening, this could certainly be at the expense of Mina, who hasn’t been able to show his full worth under the English boss.

However, Mina, who is valued at £18m (as per Transfermarkt), did sign for the Toffees from Barcelona for just over £27m, so Lampard might be inclined to give him another chance and show him what he can do next to Tarkowski to avoid the club from making a substantial loss.
