Everton are looking at Steven Bergwijn, it has been claimed.
The Toffees are going to have to make some seriously smart moves this summer if they are to avoid a repeat of the most recent campaign, which only saw them avoid relegation with one game left to spare, although Financial Fair Play regulations will likely be a big hurdle as they aim to boost their squad.
It appears that they’re set to make their first sensible signing of the window by bringing in the experienced James Tarkowski on a free transfer, and that could well be a theme that Frank Lampard is going for in seeking Premier League experience, as they are also said to be interested in Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Winks and Bergwijn.
Noted insider ExWHUemployee, known for his transfer news about the Hammers, has claimed on The Transfer Show that the latter is certainly of interest to Lampard.
Ex said: “He’s also looking at another current Spurs player that’s on the way out – Steven Bergwijn. As I mentioned yesterday [Tuesday], Ajax seem to be leading the chase with him, but Everton do have an interest.”
Should Everton try and sign Bergwijn?

TIF Thoughts on interest in Bergwijn…
The Dutch international has been very heavily linked with a return to the Eredivisie, as Ajax have reportedly had a £17m bid rejected, with Spurs looking for an offer closer to the €30m (£25.5m) mark, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Being able to offer regular Premier League football could be a huge pull for Bergwijn when it comes to Everton’s interest, however, after only being afforded 25 starts for Spurs since arriving back in 2020, he may feel that English football isn’t for him.
Therefore, it could take a good amount of convincing from Lampard and Everton to get Bergwijn to Goodison Park, although £25.5m would surely be a good price for someone still only 24 years old and has also previously been labelled ‘unique‘ by former Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
