Everton is looking to bolster their squad after a disastrous 21/22 season where they narrowly escaped relegation thanks to the efforts of new manager Frank Lampard. It now looks like they are going to use the pull of their manager with rumours of looking to sign Winks for Spurs this summer.
Bridge has revealed they are interested in the player, however, the potential deal for Winks between the two teams has not lined up as Everton wants to loan the player before buying, whereas Spurs are looking for something permanent.
He said on The Transfer Show: “A deal I broke last night was Everton in talks with Harry Winks and Tottenham. A player who kind of needs a move, and I think Everton would prefer a loan with view to a permanent. Spurs only really keen on a permanent at the moment. He’s a player who was Man of the Match on his England debut a couple of years ago, but he’s just sort of lost his way. I think that will happen.”
TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s comments…
The Toffees desperately need to improve their squad and midfield is one of the more critical areas that need to be addressed. They currently only have Allan, Fabian Delph, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Andre Gomes as recognised central midfielders and they suffered injuries to both Doucoure and Gomes which kept them out for the important run-in.
Signing a player like Winks would help improve them despite him falling out of favour at the club since Antonio Conte came in. Last season he did play 30 times across all competitions with one goal and two assists while. During this time he ranked in the 98th percentile for progressive passes with 6.71 per game and the 88th for passes attempted per game with 65.33 across midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues (FBRef).
It is rumoured the player could end up costing around £20m to acquire his services, with Everton’s financial problems it is still unsure if they can afford to sign him for this amount, but he would certainly help improve the team next season.
Should Everton sign Winks?
