Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has played down the idea that Crystal Palace will sign starlet Conor Gallagher this summer despite the club’s desperation to bring him back.

The South London outfit is looking to continue building the squad under manager Patrick Vieira’s vision this summer and is looking to bring back Gallagher from Chelsea, who enjoyed a great season on loan at the Premier League club last season.

However, Bridge believes they will struggle to get the player back for next season as Chelsea is not looking to get rid of any more players after the departures of players like Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Romelu Lukaku.

He said on The Transfer Show, “I know Crystal Palace will be desperate to get Gallagher for a second season. I can’t see that happening in a million years at the moment. And as I say the message I’m getting is no more outgoings for the time being.”

TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s comments…

The £22.5m-rated starlet showed his class last season at Selhurst Park, racking up eight goals and five assists across all competitions for the club while averaging 1.4 shots, 1.1 key passes, 1.3 dribbles, 1.9 tackles, 1.1 crosses, and 1.3 long balls per game with 81.6% passing accuracy.

He also impressed across the top five European leagues, ranking in the 96th per cent of non-penalty goals, 93rd for touches in the attacking penalty box and pressures per game and 92nd for dribbles completed. (Fbref)

It is obvious why Palace are desperate to retain his services for another season, but with the numerous departures of regular first-team players, it is also understandable why Chelsea would want to keep a player with his potential, it is almost like acquiring a new signing without forking out the transfer fee to sign him.
