Journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that Ezri Konsa might have to be sold in the summer if Calvin Bassey joins Aston Villa.
There have been recent reports that Villa are closing in on signing Bassey from Rangers in the summer transfer window after the 22-year-old defender featured 50 times for his side in all competitions this season as they won the Scottish FA Cup and reached the Europa League final.
Konsa featured 29 times in the Premier League this season for Villa, but with the introduction of Diego Carlos from Sevilla, he may see his game time limited next campaign – or he might even be shown the door by Steven Gerrard.
Whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Taylor claimed that Konsa might be sold in the summer if Gerrard opts to bring in Bassey from former club Rangers.
Asked what next season could have in store for Konsa, he said: “It’s hard to say because Gerrard seems to be quite a big fan of Konsa and Mings. Obviously, if Bassey arrives, that could see one of them sold.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…
Konsa, who is valued at £22.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), has not been in the best form for Aston Villa this season. In the Premier League, he is ranked 17th in terms of average player rating for the Villans (6,74), while he is ranked 13th for interceptions per game (0.5). He also received two red cards in the 29 games that he played, as per SofaScore.
Villa ended up finishing 14th in the Premier League, so Gerrard will be keen to bring in some new talent this summer and show some players the door, so letting Konsa go and bringing in Bassey, who is younger, could be a good option for him.
Bassey also comes into the squad proving that he can perform in the Europa League, where he made 14 appearances in the competition as Rangers reached the final, and with the ambitions that Gerrard might have, this experience could be valuable in the future if they were to qualify for Europe.
