Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard could use his connections to bring Gareth Bale to the club in the summer.

According to reports, Aston Villa are one of the clubs who are interested in signing Gareth Bale this summer, they are joined by fellow Premier League sides such as Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur who are also keen on the Welshman.

Bale had another frustrating season last term, he had a campaign mixed with injuries and then being out of favour when he did return to fitness, meaning that he made just seven appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid.

With Bale being linked to Newcastle United, O’Rourke claimed to GiveMeSport that Gerrard will be using his persuasive power to try and convince him to move to Villa and he could also be doing the same with Alexis Sanchez.

“It would be a surprise, but it just shows Aston Villa’s ambition that they’re looking for those type of high-profile signings. Obviously Gareth Bale wants to keep fit ahead of the World Cup.

“We all know how good Gareth Bale can be on his day and I’m sure Steven Gerrard will be using his persuasive power to try and encourage him to move to Aston Villa, as he will be with Alexis Sanchez,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Gerrard has not wasted any time this transfer window in terms of bringing in new faces to Villa Park, he has already confirmed three signings, one of which was the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho, which 18 months ago could have been seen as an extremely unlikely signing.

We have already seen what the Steven Gerrard pull power can do, so this makes it seem like the Bale rumours have some substance to them, and with him still performing on the international stage, he could be a good addition to the Villa squad.
