Graeme Bailey has been speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast about what he’s been told regarding Arsenal transfer target Gabriel Jesus.
The Gunners appear set to be one of the busiest teams in the transfer window this summer, having been tipped to make moves for the likes of Youri Tielemans, Aaron Hickey and Premier League champion Jesus, although none of those have yet materialised.
Jesus is potentially the most exciting one, as the Gunners would be getting an attacker capable of playing through the middle or as an attacking winger – something he did a lot this season – but something else that’s important is that he would arrive proven in the top flight, with 141 goal involvements in 236 games for Manchester City.
However, it’s not a simple deal for Arsenal, with Tottenham Hotspur also interested in Jesus, and Bailey has now revealed what happened when he tried to contact Jesus’ people about a move to Arsenal.

He said: “When I’ve spoken to people close to Jesus – this isn’t a detriment to Arsenal – I’m still asking the question, why does he want to go to Arsenal, if indeed he does? And I’m not getting any answers back at the moment, because for the life of me I do not understand why he would want to leave City at this point, showing how important he is.
“It may be to go to be a number nine. I don’t see him as a number nine personally, I think he’s better off coming from out wide as he does at City.”
TIF Thoughts on Jesus’ future…
The Brazilian winger could yet prove to be a very good signing for Arsenal in multiple aspects, such as being a proven goalscorer, not costing a lot of money (with just a reported £40m price tag), being a serial winner and also already knowing Mikel Arteta from their time together at Man City.
However, one thing that could potentially be a stumbling block for the Gunners is the lack of Champions League football, especially when a Spurs side managed by Antonio Conte are showing an interest and can offer Champions League football to someone such as Jesus.
