Joe Thomlinson has admitted on the Football Daily YouTube channel that he wouldn’t be convinced if Arsenal decided to sign Alvaro Morata.

It is no secret that Arsenal’s number-one priority in this upcoming summer transfer window is bringing in a new striker, with Alexandre Lacazette recently confirming his departure and Eddie Nketiah yet to officially commit his long-term future to the Gunners.

There has been a lot of talk about Gabriel Jesus being a prime target for Mikel Arteta this summer, however, other strikers are also seemingly being lined up, in the form Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Morata.

It’s the latter target that has Thomlinson very much unconvinced, which could be down to his failings in the Premier League with Chelsea when he scored just 16 goals in 47 league appearances.

Would Morata be a good signing for Arsenal?

Yes!

No!

He said: “Obviously, Arsenal are looking for strikers this summer, probably more than one. Gabi Jesus looking increasingly likely to join the club, which I think is just a fabulous signing given his expected goal numbers continue to be extremely solid even when he’s not playing an awful lot of games.

“Whereas the second name on the list – we’ve seen the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin – clearly they’re looking for a slightly more physical option, I would say, up front. Gabriel Jesus comes in as essentially the No 9 but can also operate wide, he can operate off a striker.

Where did Arsenal sign these players from, let's start with an easy one! Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

“I think they do want the guy that’s going to be their through-the-middle, secondary option for them, and is that Morata? I’m massively unconvinced by this one.”

TIF Thoughts on Arsenal’s interest in Morata…

It certainly would be a bold move for Arsenal to go after a striker that very much failed to make a lasting impression in the Premier League, and quickly made his way back to home comforts of La Liga and joined Atletico Madrid.

However, considering Morata failing to impress during a loan spell out in Turin with just nine league goals and Dusan Vlahovic having arrived in January as the main man, with one year left on his contract with Atletico Madrid, the Gunners could well get a bargain deal if the Spanish giants are open to selling this summer.
