Dean Jones has admitted on The Done Deal Show that he expects Arsenal to sign Aaron Hickey this summer.

The Gunners are set to be quite busy ahead of next season, as Jones also claimed that he’s been told Arsenal will be now looking to bring in three or four top-quality signings that would improve the first team.

Players such as Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans are the big names being linked with a summer move to the Emirates Stadium, however, left-back is an area they must improve, with Kieran Tierney’s fitness issues and Nuno Tavares not yet fully trusted, having been handed just 13 league starts, which has seen them linked with a move for Hickey.

Jones believes that Arsenal are very interested in the full-back and expects them to move for him this summer.

Will Arsenal finish in the top four next season?

He said: “I’m told that Hickey, they’re so hot on him, that it would be quite a big surprise if they didn’t follow through with this and actually have a good crack at getting him, so I do expect that to come through.”

TIF Thoughts on Hickey to Arsenal…

Interestingly, former Hearts manager Daniel Stendel even called the left-back an ‘extraordinary’ player from their time together and compared him to Philipp Lahm.

It would be a bit of a surprise if Mikel Arteta and Arsenal weren’t signing Hickey to potentially be the number-one left-back when Tierney is out injured, as he doesn’t appear to trust Tavares, who is even older than the Scotland full-back.

However, given Hickey’s experience gained out in Serie A this season – racking up 36 appearances as well as earning a spot in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad – the 19-year old could provide great depth for Arsenal as they look to fight on multiple fronts with European football back next term.
