Journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed that Arsenal ‘have got a shot’ at signing Gianluca Scamacca in the summer transfer window.

There have been reports stating the Gunners are keen on signing Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo in the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his attack ahead of next season.

It has recently been announced that Alexandre Lacazette has re-signed for Lyon after his Arsenal contract expired, so Arteta has been on the hunt for at least one new striker, with Gabriel Jesus also being heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

With Arsenal being linked to Scamacca, Bailey spoke on The Chronicles of a Gooner podcast and claimed that the Gunners ‘have got a shot’ at signing him.

He said: “Scamacca is an interesting one. His agents are working very hard to see what else is out there.

“They’re pushing him to Tottenham, to Chelsea, to all sorts of these teams – it happens. And unfortunately, Arsenal can’t offer him Champions League football, he’s an Italian international. I think in an ideal world, he would like to join a club like that, but I think he’s sensible.

“I think Arsenal have got a shot at this guy, I really do. They’ve done their homework on him, they’ve had talks, they like him.”

TIF Thoughts on Bailey’s comments…

Scamacca was in fine goalscoring form this past season for Sassuolo in Serie A, as he netted 16 times in 36 games, which is what has presumably caught the attention of several clubs across Europe, although his current contract still has four more years to run.

Arsenal narrowly missed out on the top four, meaning they will have to settle for the Europa League next season, so this might make the deal for Scamacca difficult to get over the line as he might have interest from those playing in the Champions League.

That said, Bailey’s claim should offer supporters hope Arsenal can seal what would be an intriguing transfer this summer.
