Journalist David Ornstein has predicted that new Arsenal signing Fabio Vieira is cause for great excitement among the fanbase.

The Premier League outfit officially completed the transfer of the former Porto midfielder earlier this week, announcing on their website that the 22-year-old had signed a long-term contract.

Having spent his entire career in Portugal up to this point, many supporters may be looking out for clues on what to expect from the midfielder.

According to Ornstein, the Gunners could have a top talent on their hands if he can settle in as well as some of the other Portuguese stars in recent times.

While speaking on the FIVE channel, the journalist said: “Portugal seems to be, at the moment, the go-to place for many Premier League clubs, and so if Vieira has the sort of impact that many of the others who have come from that league have had in the Premier League so far, then I think Arsenal fans can be excited.”

Interestingly enough, former Arsenal defender Johan Djourou has already compared Vieira with Bernardo Silva (via football.london). The Manchester City man came through the Benfica academy before going on to star in the Premier League, so that is an exciting comparison to make.

Another star to make a great transition to English football from Portugal is Liverpool ace Luis Diaz, with the Colombian proving to be a big hit on Merseyside ever since leaving Porto in January.

Taking those examples into account, it certainly looks as though Vieira has a clear path to follow if he wants to find success at Arsenal. With that in mind, it’s no wonder Ornstein has told fans they can probably be pretty excited.
