Football journalist Charles Watts has enthused about Arsenal possibly signing Serge Gnabry amid recent transfer talk.

The German has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with his ongoing Bayern Munich contract talks reported to have stalled.

With the Gunners said to be chasing attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window, the 26-year-old may seem like a perfect option in the eyes of many fans, too.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts was more than happy to sing the player’s praises, saying he would be a ‘perfect’ fit. He did, however, make clear that a deal is not looking close at this stage.

The journalist said: “I would love him to come to Arsenal, it’d be absolutely perfect. You look at what he could bring to this team, the experience he could bring to the team, the quality he could bring the team, the winning mentality – everything. It’s just tick, tick, tick, tick, tick when it comes to, would it be a good signing for Arsenal.

“But it still, to me, just kind of feels like that dream-type scenario with him. It’s almost wishful thinking of fans kind of going with the emotion rather than the head.”

TIF Thoughts on Serge Gnabry and Arsenal…

Gnabry, of course, used to play for Arsenal and came through the club’s youth setup to make 18 senior appearances before leaving.

Since then, he’s gone on to star for Munich in his native Germany, playing 171 times, scoring 64 goals and claiming a further 40 assists – while also winning the Champions League and numerous domestic trophies.

His world-class ability is plain to see from those stats, and that is perhaps why Watts has suggested any talk of a possible transfer is ‘wishful thinking’ on behalf of the fans.

Even so, according to FourFourTwo, Gnabry described himself as ‘always a Gunner’, so he may feel as though the time is right for a homecoming.

Judging from Watts’ comments, he would be a great signing for the club – sadly, though, a move doesn’t look particularly close to happening at this moment in time.
