Simon Jordan feels it would be a “massive failing” on Arsenal’s behalf if they were to lose Bukayo Saka.
The 20-year-old is now in the final two years of his current contract at the Gunners, and as soon as the season finished and Mikel Arteta’s side missed out on Champions League football, speculation quickly began to mount on Saka’s future.
There have been claims Manchester City could make an offer to sign the exciting young attacker if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Daily Mail revealed last week that the Citizens are looking to ‘steal a march’ on rivals Liverpool, who are also said to be monitoring the winger’s precarious situation in the capital.
However, Jordan has urged the officials in north London to tie down the attacker as quickly as possible to avoid disaster.
Will Bukayo Saka become one the best wingers in the world?
Speaking on TalkSport, he said: “I think it would be a disappointing day at Arsenal if they don’t find the keys to the door to unlock the problem that they’ve got with this kid signing a new contract.
“That would be a massive failing on the part of Edu, Arteta and anyone else in Arsenal that controls, to some extent still, the direction of travel of this boy’s career.
“They should want him to sign a new contract and they should find a solution to it.”
TIF Thoughts on Saka and Arsenal…
According to WhoScored, the versatile Englishman finished last campaign as Arsenal’s best player in terms of average match rating while also leading the side for goals and assists, highlighting his importance to the team.
He is quite clearly a star already for Arsenal and is certainly one to watch for the future, but whether he will be at the Emirates Stadium beyond 2024 remains to be seen, and the club officials really need to sit down and persuade Saka to sign a new deal so they can at least command a hefty fee should he look to leave the club.
