Football analyst Statman Dave, seen on Sky Sports and the BBC, has identified his ‘number-one pick’ for Arsenal to choose as their new No 9 this summer.
On his YouTube channel, Dave discussed three possible targets for the Gunners to sign in this window, and while he presented a valid argument for the club to pursue deals for Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko and Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, it was Sassuolo and Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca who he reinforced the need for most.
The frontman has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Express) claiming that it will take a total fee of £42.5m to sign the 23-year-old.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that talks between Sassuolo and Paris Saint-Germain regarding a potential deal have also been ongoing, which could be a blow to Edu and co’s hopes, but Dave is adamant that they get this one over the line.
Do you think Arsenal will sign Scamacca?
Yes
No
He said: “With the potential to be a complete forward and the physicality to thrive in the Premier League, Gianluca Scamacca would be my number-one pick to be Arteta’s new No 9.
“He could also be signed alongside Gabriel Jesus, with the Brazilian’s ability to play on the flanks in a goalscoring role.
“Reportedly available for £40m, Arsenal should do everything they can to get Scamacca to sign.”
TIF Thoughts on Scamacca to Arsenal…
In a breakout season for Scamacca, he netted 16 Serie A goals in 36 appearances – averaging one every 135 minutes – and earned his full international debut last September, playing six times for his country since.
He featured against England in a recent UEFA Nations League game and his link-up play was described as “brilliant” by former Highbury favourite Kevin Campbell.
At 6ft 4in, he has been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to his goalscoring prowess and size, but he insisted that he has his own style of playing and is perhaps reminiscent of Olivier Giroud, who flourished in north London.
It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not Arsenal do splash out on the rangey target-man and Statman Dave certainly seems to think it is a move worth making.
