GOAL correspondent Charles Watts has insisted that talks are progressing between Manchester City and Arsenal in relation to a deal for Gabriel Jesus.

Watts was speaking on his YouTube channel regarding the Gunners’ recent transfer developments at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal saw their opening offer of £30m for the striker turned down by the Premier League champions but there is thought to a belief at the club as expressed by Watts that the two sides can come to an agreement pretty swiftly with City reportedly wanting £50m.

With the recent departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng and Alexandre Lacazette there could be a clear pathway to the position of centre-forward for Jesus while Eddie Nketiah has signed a new deal.

After the announcement from Porto that they have agreed a £34.2m deal with the Gunners for midfielder Fabio Vieira, the Brazilian could well be the next signing through the door as Watts provided this update.

Would Gabriel Jesus improve Arsenal?

(7:54)”Talks are ongoing. They’re accelerating, as well. I think there’s a willingness between all parties to try and get something done now.

“Gabriel Jesus wants his future sorted out pretty quickly so he knows where he’s going to be playing. Arsenal absolutely want to get this deal done for Gabriel Jesus and Manchester City are open to letting him leave.

“City by all accounts are holding out for around 50 million pounds for Jesus. Arsenal understandably don’t really want to pay that because he’s only got a year left on his contract and so there is going to be talks continuing and ramping up.

Described as a “superstar”  by BT Sport pundit Steve McManaman, Jesus’ £91k-per-week contract expires at the end of the upcoming season so perhaps Arsenal are playing a hard bargain but this chance could be too good to turn down.

Arteta will be familiar with the 25-year-old having been an assistant to Pep Guardiola and he will be well aware of his prolific record.

He has scored 95 goals in 236 appearances at the Etihad and contributed with 46 assists with his ability to operate anywhere across the front three another major selling point.
